A PAEDOPHILE who sexually abused a young girl has been jailed for three years.

Father-of-two Gary Thompson of Balmoral Avenue, Whitefield, assaulted the girl over a year -- with one incident taking place the day before her 10th birthday.

After every assault, Thompson left the girl £1.

He denied five counts of gross indecency and indecent assault at a trial at Manchester Minshull Street Crown Court, but was found guilty and will have to sign the Sex Offender Register for life.

The court heard how 40-year-old Thompson had been forced to flee his former home in Whitefield after posters reading "Paedophile Alert" with his name and address were put up in the area.

Bricks were also thrown through his window.

Passing sentence Judge John Burke QC ordered that Thompson must be subject to an extra 12 months supervision on his release.

"You satisfied your depraved inclination by interfering with this little girl. It will stay in her memory for a long time," he said
