HOW I sympathise with Margaret McMillan (Letters, October 3) after she was driven in a taxi while the driver held a mobile phone to his ear for a journey of probably about 10 minutes.
Sadly, there is still no specific law against this and I have taken the issue up through my MP, Nigel Evans, and via Lancashire Constabulary to the highest levels.
A driver can, of course, be prosecuted for not being in full control of his vehicle, but I have yet to hear of such a case while the person was on a mobile phone, yet you can see it happening every day.
The Government is pussyfooting around this dangerous activity and cannot make a decision to ban their use.
They have allowed the practice to become commonplace and with the new generation of phones, drivers will not only be able to chat and text, but to watch television and use the Internet also.
A new law is urgently required.
