A MAN carried out a prolonged attack on his pregnant step-sister after a row over a taxi fare.

Blackburn magistrates heard that Michelle Guilfoyle was dragged to the floor by her hair and her head was banged against a wall during the attack, which she estimated lasted about five minutes.

Scott Guilfoyle, 42, of East Crescent, Accrington, pleaded guilty to assaulting Michelle Guilfoyle.

He was remanded on conditional bail for the preparation of pre-sentence reports.

David Hartley, prosecuting, said Guilfoyle had been drinking during the day of the offence before returning to East Crescent where he lived with his parents, Michelle and her 19-month-old child.

"He turned on his sister," said Mr Hartley. "He dragged her to the floor by her hair, causing considerable pain, before banging her head against the wall." Daniel King, defending, said Guilfoyle over-reacted to comments made by his sister to their father. "It was an unpleasant offence but fortunately there was no lasting injury," said Mr King.
