A FORK lift truck driver stopped from fighting by officers said the police were useless and ended up getting arrested.
Burnley Magistrates heard Michael James Butson, 23, swore, was warned about his conduct but carried on being abusive. Butson, of Bradshaw Street, Nelson, admitted threatening, abusive or insulting words or behaviour. He was given a 12 months conditional discharge with £55 costs.
The court heard a police sergeant went to a reported disturbance in Railway Street, Nelson, and saw two men hitting out at each other. Both smelled of drink, had bloody noses and made counter allegations about each other.
The officer tried to calm things down and was successful in getting one party away with his friend.
Mark Irlam, defending, said Butson had been in a takeaway when two men abused his girlfriend. He was punched in the face and defended himself by hitting back.
