THE nursery at the centre of an E.coli outbreak was reopened today. Two children from Pendle were among those affected by the bug which struck 13 children, aged between one and four and one parent.

All 23 staff at the Busy Bears Nursery in Skipton were given the all-clear. The nursery caters for many children from Pendle and the Ribble Valley whose parents work in Skipton.

Only children who are negative from the second round of screening have been allowed back at the nursery.

Dr Ebere Okereke, consultant in Communicable Disease Control at the North Yorkshire Health Protection Service, said: "All children who were admitted to hospital during this incident have been discharged and are doing well at home.

"Surveillance of neighbouring nurseries and the local community is continuing.

"So far, no new cases have been identified outside Busy Bears nursery.

"To date, no source of the infection has been identified. However, the team in continuing in their investigations."

Parents of children who attended the nursery are being asked to remain vigilant about the symptoms of E.coli, which include vomiting, diarrhoea, stomach pain and fever.
