A MAN has been charged with causing the death of a woman by dangerous driving after a road accident in Oswaldtwistle.

Azhar Mahmood, 21, of Burnley, was charged with the offence and a number of other motoring offences and will appear before Hyndburn Magistrates on Friday, December 13.

Nichola Snowden, 32, of Williams Road, Burnley, was Mahmood's passenger and died in hospital two hours after the accident in Blackburn Road at 1am on October 20. She suffered head, chest and leg injuries.

Fire crews worked with paramedics to free Nichola, who was trapped by her legs against the dashboard, and take her to Blackburn Royal Infirmary.

Police said that Mahmood's Rover 418 car was travelling towards Accrington, between the railway bridge on the border of Church and Oswaldtwistle and Church traffic lights when it collided with a taxi travelling towards Blackburn.

Both Mahmood and the taxi driver Mohammed Shafiq, 47, of Spring View, Accrington, were treated for minor injuries.
