A NINE-year-old boy was taken to hospital after a road accident during a trip to the shops.
Leon Pickles, of Downham Grove, Burnley, suffered serious head and leg injuries in the accident in Brunshaw Avenue, Burnley, at 3.50pm yesterday.
Police said Leon had been walking from his home to the shops in Lyndhurst Road to buy a bottle of milk when he ran out in front of a Citroen Xantia driven by Harry Halstead, 64, of Riddings Avenue, Worsthorne.
Police said they believed Leon ran into the road without stopping from behind a stationary double decker bus, which had pulled up near the junction with Coleshill Avenue to drop off school-children. The youngster suffered a broken left leg and head injuries and was taken to Burnley General Hospital.
Brunshaw Avenue was closed for around two hours while police carried out investigations.
