DESPITE a spell of almost total inactivity, Burnley's youth team produced their best display of the season when they played Stockport County at the weekend.

The young Clarets survived the loss of a two goal lead to clinch a 3-2 win against Stockport County with a display that delighted Pashley.

"The lads did really well and the margin should have been a lot wider than 3-2," he explained.

"It was a big help to have the third years back in the side after being ruled out of the FA Youth Cup game and the likes of Matty O'Neill, Mark Rasmussen and Joel Pilkington did very well.

"And it was nice that after the game their coach was saying that we had some of the best players he had seen this season."

Burnley led 1-0 at half time with Robert Grimes prodding the ball home after Joel Pilkington's cross had been flicked on by Liam Eves.

Fifteen minutes after the break Pilkington himself doubled the advantage with a cool finish in a one on one with the Stockport keeper.

"He did well because he was playing at right back due to the number of injuries we have to defenders at the moment," said Pashley.

They looked set for a comfortable win until the Hatters netted twice in two minutes to set up a tense finale.

But it was fit again striker Damien Hindle who had the final word with the winning goal in the closing stages.

"It was a superb strike, smashing the ball into the top corner from 20 yards on the half volley," said Pashley.

The win was a boost to the youngsters but Pashley was still relieved to be allowed to reschedule the Lancashire FA Youth game against Tranmere that was due to have been played on Monday.

"We have still got a lot of injury problems and Gary Carter had an operation on his shoulder yesterday," he said. "He won't be ready for the game on January 27 but we have got people coming back.

"Richard Chaplow is back in training but Ryan Townsend and Adam Jones are still both a week to ten days away."

The youth side are away at Wigan on Saturday.
