TWO young girls suffered head injuries in an accident as they crossed a Bury road together.

Aneela Khan, aged eight, sustained serious injuries to her face and legs while five-year-old Ramesha Ali suffered a cut to her head.

Police said the girls were involved in an accident with a white Toyota car driven by a 49-year-old local man in South Cross Street, Bury, at 8pm on Monday.

Aneela, of South Cross Street, and Ramesha, from nearby Ingham Street, were taken to Fairfield General Hospital for treatment. Their injuries were not considered life-threatening.

Police are seeking witnesses.

PC Andy Speed from Bury's Traffic Unit said: "We have so far only managed to speak to one person who witnessed what appears to be a straightforward accident.

"However, I would like to hear from anyone else who saw what happened and ask them to call the traffic unit."

Anyone who can help should call Bury Traffic Unit on 0161 856 8072.
