THERE will be no new faces at Turf Moor until the New Year at least, according to Clarets chairman Barry Kilby.

The obvious need for squad strengthening was discussed at a board meeting at the start of the week and Kilby repeated: "We have said the key issues will be those of availability and cost when it comes to loan players.

"At the moment there is the added complication of it being the Christmas period and so the situation as we go into the festive programme is that we will have to go with what we have got.

"It was a standard board meeting but we did talk about players and I will be meeting with Stan early next week to see what we can do."

With the transfer window for Premiership clubs opening in just a few days time, the chairman has again admitted that if the right offer were to come in for one of Ternent's players, he would be sold.

However Kilby explained: "I don't think there is going to be a lot of activity in the transfer market over the next few weeks, the money just isn't there.

"That is why we have put together a plan for the next four years that does not budget for any player sales because there is no guarantee we could do that. We have had to assume no player sales.

"It is obvious that if a club did come in with a serious offer we would have to consider it but we are not in a position where we have to consider anything that is a ridiculously low offer.

"And if we did have to sell a player, given the size of the squad that we have got, then we would hope to be able to give Stan some of it so he can think about how to replace anyone.

"Teams are going to have to get used to working with squads of about 21 or 22 players, there are very few that can afford the luxury of having 28 players in order to cover for a crisis due to injury or suspensions."

Meanwhile Ternent is still hoping that referee Grant Hegley's decisions to send off both Dean West and Gareth Taylor at Gillingham will be reviewed and his players might yet escape a ban.

"There is nothing I can do until I have seen his report and we will take it from there," he said.
