CHILDREN from a Haslingden school have helped to transform the town's memorial gardens.

Under the watchful eyes of officers from Rossendale Borough Council, the green-fingered kids from Haslingden County Primary have added their own unique touch to the Greenfield Memorial Gardens.

With a little help from the Friends of Greenfield Memorial Gardens and their chairman, Bill Scott, hanging baskets have been installed and flower bulbs planted.

Flower beds have also been spruced up and art work has also been made by the children of the school.

And the group is also considering holding a big event for the park early next year.

Peter Starkey, a member of the group said:

"It is all very encouraging.

"We will be looking for sponsorship from local companies, businesses and organisations."

The committee is currently in talks with Rossendale parks and leisure departmento fence off part of the garden's bowling green area.

And after the work by the school, they are also considering upgrading the childrens' play area.
