ONE week before Christmas and Blackburn with Darwen Council prosecute a pub landlord for being in breach of his public entertainments licence (LET, December 16).

Councillor Maureen Bateson actually welcomes the prosecution, no doubt getting into the Christmas spirit of this council's policy of killing the local pubs.

The landlord in question was guilty, among other things, of not having his toilets and water supply up to scratch, resulting in a fine of £2,000 with £400 costs -- although the council do not really explain how this fine will ensure the safety of the public at all, or how this has anything to do with entertainment.

This council is the most mean, petty, miserable bunch of bureaucrats in the whole of Lancashire. They have snarled up the traffic, made the town centre an eyesore, killed the karaoke, and don't know a work of art from a man's backside. (Re. Eccleshill).

Coming soon from Councillor D Smith, of Darwen: How our council is the best in the country, part 32, blah, blah! humbug!
