I KNOW it is easy to have a go at referees but after the events at Gillingham last week I think I have to say something.

It is the first match that Mr Hegley has reffed me in and I hope it is the last. He started very badly and it just got worse.

He made a lot of poor decisions and was not helped by his (lack of) assistants but he did have a nightmare.

He was so bad from the start that he probably thought he might as well keep going until the end and so he sent off Westy and Gareth when neither should have gone.

I got booked and so will now miss the FA Cup tie at Grimsby but I think I would rather miss that than a league game. That is still the most important thing.

But it does not help you in the league if you have a ref like we had on Saturday. It was a Christmas turkey a few days early. Talking of turkey, it was business as usual for us yesterday as we got in some training before today's match with Wolves.

Working at Christmas is just par for the course for a footballer and we can't complain really.

My three-year-old is just getting into Christmas but I had to leave him for training although I was back there to have the traditional dinner.

We just have to be sensible and it tends to be a short sharp training session, just to get the legs going. Then it is back home to open the presents although he likes to open his early in the morning.

Of course we have got another long trip on Saturday with the game at Brighton and that means another overnight stay on Friday.

Then we have got a really tough match at Sheffield United who have been the form team in the division in the last few weeks. But whoever we play against we have to defend better than we have been doing. We gave away some poor goals at the weekend and we were made to pay heavily for the chance that Gareth missed that would have made it 2-1.

When we have had clean sheets, like against Norwich and Nottingham Forest, we have gone on to win the game.

We have just got to keep going, keep working hard and try to turn it around. Hopefully that will start against Wolves today.

I hope you all had a very good Christmas and we help to make it even better by winning a few games.

It is still not too late to put in a push for the play-offs, there are lots of points to play for in the next few months.
