CHRISTMAS is a time for giving and sharing and the pupils at Parrenthorn High School have demonstrated just how well they are aware of the tradition.

Each year, the youngsters raise money for a charity chosen by the pupils and present a cheque to the recipient during a special assembly.

This year was no different when they handed over £706 to the NSPCC. But it was an extra-special effort from the youngsters.

Headteacher Mr Arthur Francis said: "This is something the pupils do every year because they want to, but this year in particular, they are also trying to raise funds for our specialist school bid.

"We are striving towards raising enough funds to support our bid for technology college status but the pupils still wanted to collect for a local charity, which I think was very commendable."
