Clarets fans who found Stan Ternent's autobiography in their Christmas stocking won't need to be told how much the Burnley boss will want to win at Bramall Lane on New Year's Day.

His dislike of Neil Warnock is well chronicled and the 3-0 defeat at the Blades last season was a very damaging one as the Clarets chased a play-off spot.

The season before it was a 2-0 defeat in the penultimate game that ended hopes of a play-off spot and sparked the cheat row with the Burnley boss claiming that his opposite number had sent a spy to listen to his half time team talk.

Warnock's men have been the form team in the first division and their 1-0 win at Walsall on Boxing Day catapulted them into third place, the closest pursuers of Portsmouth and Leicester City at the top.

In addition they are looking forward to a two legged Worthington Cup semi-final against Liverpool next month having already knocked out two Premiership sides, Leeds United and Sunderland.

They have already beaten Burnley this season, a 1-0 win during Burnley's miserable start to the season, and Ternent will be hoping his side will start the New Year in exactly the right way with three points from the tip across the Pennines.
