Clarets weren't just winners on the pitch on Boxing Day.

Around 10 Santa hats were spotted being donned by fans in the Jimmy McIlroy Stand, compared to only a couple of Wolves supporters. But one would have gone home with a very bedraggled Christmas tit-fer after his sheer frustration at his team's inability to get back into the game boiled over.

The gentleman, dressed in full Santa costume, threw his hat on the floor in disgust when the Burnley rearguard snuffed out another chance.

Let's hope he didn't have to return it to the fancy dress shop undamaged first thing yesterday or his Christmas bonus could well have gone on a fine.

TALKING of fancy dress, all Paul Weller needed to complete his impression of Friar Tuck was a big cushion and a habit.

That is because he had the hairstyle off to a tee with the gel applied to the head injury he suffered against Wolves giving him a fabulous tonsure. Look that one up in your dictionary!

Not sure tonsure!

ONE of the great traditions of the festive season is to turn up for Boxing Day's game in your Christmas jumper.

Sadly Santa did not bring me one this year and I had to make do with my Christmas tie, a very bright gold effort from my parents.

But given the fact that Burnley won the game, the tie will have to stay which should at least ensure I don't get run over.

And there is every chance that there will be plenty of Clarets fans who are going to wear the present from Aunty Nellie a lot more than they ever imagined.

THE Boxing Day clash with Wolves was the last home game for a couple of weeks as Burnley faced a run of three away games, starting at Brighton today.

That might have proved a trip too far for some fans but the next two matches involve a trip across the Pennines, to Sheffield United in the league on New Year's Day and then for the FA Cup tie against Grimsby Town on January 4.

IT was a triumph of effort over history when the Clarets finally beat Wolves at Turf Moor on Boxing Day. So for this week's Turf trivia, can you name the scorers the last time Burnley beat Wolves at home.

The answer to last week's question, who the Clarets last played on Christmas Day, was Manchester City.

The match was played in 1957 and Burnley triumphed 2-1 with goals from Brian Pilkington and Albert Cheesebrough. Mind you, City got their revenge on Boxing Day, winning 4-1 at Maine Road.
