OVER the past few years Darwen has had to put up with some real gaffes from Blackburn's direction. We have had Darwen Tower being called Blackburn Tower, a sign at Bull Hill stating 'Welcome to Blackburn,' signs on the Blackburn orbital road spelling 'Darwen' as 'Darwin,' but the latest isone must be the pice de resistance.
I came down the M65 on my way back from Blackpool and was completely horrified to see signs stating that Blackburn -- yes, Blackburn -- services were a few miles further on. To my knowledge these services, which include a McDonald's restaurant manned by people from Darwen, is about 60 yards -- sorry, 50 metres -- inside Darwen's boundary.
ROY DAVIES, Olive Lane, Darwen.
