YOUR article (LET, January 1) on the scheme to teach children road safety, showing a picture of some wearing reflective jackets brought back memories.
I attended Lammack Primary School, Blackburn in the 1960s and I was involved in a similar campaign.
I was pictured walking across the road with some school friends and Barbara Castle MP, dressed in our orange 'diddy jacket.'
Whatever happened to them? This may be a new initiative, but some things don't change that much.
H FIELDING, Pleck Farm Avenue, Blackburn.
Footnote: Six thousand 'diddy jackets' were issued to children in Blackburn and Darwen in 1968 when the UK's switch to 'permanent' British Standard Time meant youngsters had to go to school in the dark. The system was scrapped two years later.
