CHILDREN in Rossendale have been given a road safety aid to help make walking to school less hazardous, thanks to a generous donation from a local company.

Crawshawbooth Primary School in Burnley Road now has 400 new high visibility vests donated by James Killelea and Co Ltd. The vests, which cost £2,000, will make the youngsters more visible to motorists as they walk to and from school during winter.

Bob Killelea, owner of Crawshawbooth-based James Killelea and Co Ltd, said: "I was approached by the police who asked me to donate some money as a part of an initiative aimed at schoolchildren and increasing the profile of road safety.

"We want to do our bit to help the community and this was a good way to do so."

The scheme is part of high-profile Lancashire Partnership for Road Safety, backed by local authorities throughout the county, including Burnley, Pendle and Rossendale.
