AN untidy site behind Simpson's Garage, off Knotts Lane, Colne, could be transformed if plans to redevelop the area for housing are given the go-ahead.

The proposal by Crownway Homes would include two sets of three link houses and one set of four link houses accessed by Knotts Drive.

The area is an empty brownfield site which has had problems with fly-tipping, resulting in a number of complaints to the local authority.

Each house would have three bedrooms and have off-street parking for two cars and back gardens.

Three letters of objection were received by residents, who said the houses would not be in keeping with the area and would have a detrimental effect on road and sewer networks.

The expansion of the residential development in the area, they added, had not been matched by the provision of a community centre, children's play area, sports areas, shops or public transport.

Case officer Jim Bennett said: "The proposal represents an excellent opportunity to bring about the redevelopment of this untidy and problematic site.

"The proposal complies with relevant planning policy on new housing development and is recommended for approval."

Councillors will consider the application on Thursday at the Colne and District Committee.
