A ROSSENDALE store has launched a Christmas Gift Amnesty in aid of a local youngster suffering from a terminal disease.

The Asda store, in Bury Road, Rawtenstall, is appealing for any unwanted Christmas gifts which will go towards a tombola being held next month.

The proceeds will go towards toddler Jack Heath, who suffers from the rare Hunter's Syndrome.

Jack, four, of Bacup, was diagnosed with the rare genetic disorder shortly after he was born.

The incurable disease only affects one in every 150,000 boys in the country and means little Jack will probably not survive into his teens.

His mum, Elizabeth, of Peel Avenue, has given up work to look after Jack, who has difficulty speaking, hearing and walking, and to take him to his five hospital appointments every week.

People in Bacup have already started a huge fund-raising campaign after hearing the tragic news and have set up a charitable trust in his name.

The money raised will be used to buy equipment and to adapt his house for wheelchair use.

The Asda store says any unwanted presents, from socks and hankies to chocolates and toys, will be welcome donations for the tombola. They can take them into the store and be dropped at the customer service desk between now and February, when the tombola will take place.
