SCHOOL REPORT: The school caters for pupils aged 5-16 years who have learning difficulties. The motto of the school is "Working together, aiming high." This is not only important in the classroom but also for the pupils acquiring skills to be good citizens.

The children travel to school from a wide area of East Lancashire.

Pupils are very much seen as individuals. Our aim is for all pupils to meet their potential and at the same time to enjoy coming to school and for them to feel good about themselves.

HISTORY LESSON: The school has always maintained good links with the other schools and some of the pupils attend Norden High School in Rishton, Ribblesdale High School in Clitheroe and St Huberts Primary School in Great Harwood to join in certain lessons.

All the pupils follow the National Curriculum at their own level. The school also has links with local colleges and Myerscough Agricultural College.

SOMETHING TO BRAG ABOUT: This year a group of Year 10 students spent 10 days in Orpierre, Central France, on an activity week in conjunction with the local Youth Service. Younger pupils spent time at Borreatton hall, Shropshire, on a PGL holiday.

The school has also been keen to invite people into the school from a wider community. Two years ago the girl group Atomic Kitten put on a performance for all the pupils. Other celebrities who have visited include David Dunn, James Beattie, Paul Weller and Australian cricketer Jo Angel.

The Friends of North Cliffe School are very active in money raising and have helped provide a new mini-bus library books and sound system.

STAR PUPILS: This term there have been a number of star pupils who have regularly achieved high weekly scores on their personal progress programme.

From Year 2 to Year 11 there were Nathan Scully, Tom Kerrison, Daniel Shorrock, Louise Cook, Kayleigh Birtwistle, Lauren Skinner, Richard Balderson, Mark Evans, Cheryl Muir and Lee Steward. Awards and prizes are presented at the end of each term which are funded by the Rotary Club.

SPORTING ACHIEVEMENTS: Boys have recently played in tournaments at Turf Moor and Blackburn Rovers while the girls played at Manchester. Pupils have been selected for their respective Lancashire squads, including Mark Evans and Kanwal Shafiq. Kevin Hooper joined Mark at summer to play for the Lancashire cricket team.

WHAT WOULD YOU DO WITH A £100,000 WINDFALL: It would be great to build a sports hall, a music area and have an area for parents. At present the LEA is reviewing the future of all special schools but we hope to continue to provide excellent service for all our pupils for many years to come.
