IN reply to Ron O'Keeffe Snr (Letters, January 4), I did not ask for a reduction in all Blackburn's car park charges. I merely suggested consideration be given to reducing the more over-priced charges, as some are for higher than the fees I pay.

My parking pass costs me £320 per year, which I use five days a week, excluding holidays, and equates to approximately £1.35 per day. I have no objection to paying this and have never said I do.

I agree that the town would be a lot less congested if others followed Mr O'Keeffe Jnr's example and used public transport. I would be delighted to do so if there was a reliable bus service provided that would get me to work on time.

But where Mr O'Keeffe Snr gets his information from to say that my home is only one mile away from the town centre, I do not know. I have measured the distance and it is actually 1.9miles to where I park.

As for walking to work, we do not all have the time for such luxuries. Mr O'Keeffe Snr does not say whether he walks back home, but after a full day of work most people just want to get home as soon as possible.

JANET LOCKLEY (Mrs), Peel Close, Blackburn.
