PLANS of the super stadium designed to give sport in the community a massive boost show just how the rugby, soccer, athletics and leisure complex would fit on the Leigh College site.

On Tuesday, January 28 between 6pm and 9pm plans for the exciting sports and leisure complex go on view at the refurbished Leigh Sixth Form Centre at Marshall Street and see plans for the exciting sports & leisure complex which will include new college buildings.

A Hilton Park representative will also be present to outline their plans for the new stadium which would be home to Leigh Centurions, Leigh RMI, Leigh East RL and Leigh Harriers AC.

Submitted

A formal planning application for the complex is expected to be submitted to Wigan Council in the near future.

The plans show the 10,000 all-seater stadium surrounded on three sides by the new college buildings. On the fourth side is a state-of-the-art running and athletics track, rugby and soccer pitches. Entrance to the site would be off Atherleigh Way midway between the Twist Lane island and the St Helens Road junction.

In the meantime, modernisation work costing £43,000 has been spent on the Marshall Street college building and unsightly temporary classrooms have been removed.

The lecture theatre has been converted into a Drama Studio as an alternative performance space to the existing theatre at the college's Railway Road annexe. A programme of drama and music showcases, poetry evenings and cabarets has already been planned.

Classrooms

Five new, fully equipped classrooms have been created and the media computerised edit suite relocated, making all teaching areas now fully accessible to all students.

Three new student social areas have been created while the student common room has been redecorated and furnished with new, comfortable chairs and a pool table. In the final phase, new outdoor seating and dining areas will be created with additional plans for improved security and sports facilities.

Leigh Sixth Form offers a full range of AS/A level provision with complementary studies including music and drama groups, a student magazine, sports and public speaking teams. There is an active Students' Association which has a say in the day-to-day running of the college and organises social events.
