TUESDAY night might not have been our best performance of the season, but we were happy to do the business over Grimsby at last.

We were overdue a win against them after scoring five and two in the previous two matches, and how we didn't beat them in both of those games I'll never know.

But we had a good feeling after Ian Moore scored that it was going to be our night.

You're always a bit wary at 1-0 that they might get back into it, especially as the game wears on.

It was hard work in getting the second goal but once we did, we knew we could probably go on to win by three or four and that's how it ended up.

But it wouldn't have mattered if it had just stayed at 1-0 because there are no prizes for goal difference in the cup.

I don't think we played as well as we can do but it was one of those games. The atmosphere was a bit strange but we always felt fairly comfortable because we had so many chances compared to them.

So now we're looking forward to Brentford. It's not the most glamorous fixture for us but, although it will be a tough game, it will be a chance for us to make progress and perhaps get into the fifth round.

We've never really had a good run in the FA Cup since I've been at the club.

In fact, I think the furthest we've ever gone is the fourth round, so it would be good to go through the next stage and maybe test ourselves against another Premiership club.

And with quite a few already being knocked out, who knows what could happen?

In recent years Wycombe Wanderers and Chesterfield have made it to the semi-finals and there's no reason why that shouldn't happen to us this season.

But we've got to focus back on the league before then, and I'm looking forward to 'going home' on Saturday.

For some reason we've never had the best of matches at Crystal Palace because we are similar sides and seem to cancel each other out.

It's usually a tough but dire game, but we always seem to scrape through and hopefully we can come away with three points.

I don't know so many people on the playing side these because a lot have left since I was there, and so much has changed with the managers and chairman.

It's a long time since I was there but my friends and family will be going along to watch the game and it's always nice to go back.

They've got Tommy Black doing alright for them at the minute. He's one of the best centre forwards in the league and he's been banging a few goals in recently.

I've always known him as a winger but he's changed positions and it seems to be working out for him up front.

And Dougie Freedman, who I know, is always a handful. He's a bit like Robbie Blake because he likes to come short, to turn and run off people.

But our convincing win over Grimsby will give us confidence going into the game. And if Ian Moore keeps his place in the side after his double strike then he'll be looking to take his chance and do the business again.
