TEN teenagers from Nelson have been working together to look at issues relating to race, age, gender, and environment, through photography.

The Five Wards Arts and Cultural Project will launch a calendar which the ten young women, aged 15 and 16, have been working on.

Each of the girls was given a disposable camera and asked to take a roll of film which reflected their lives as young women living in Nelson.

They then worked with professional writer Mandy Precious, using the photography as a stimulus for creating some prose and poetry.

The result of their work was a calendar, which will come in a CD box and can be folded out to sit on a desk, or table.

It reflects the girls' thoughts and feelings on their race, age and gender.

The girls are of mixed race and the group is made up of five Asians, four white girls and one black girl.

This project was delivered as a partnership project between The Five Wards Arts and Cultural Project, The Prince's Trust, Walton High School and Edge End High School. Pendle Community Network sponsored the calendar.

The girls will be giving a presentation at the launch, on Thursday, January 23, at 5.45pm, at Whitefield Community Centre.
