A MAN asked to look after his hospitalised sister's children tried to sell her property.

Christopher Meeson's sister trusted him with the keys to her house but he took her property and tried to sell it to a neighbour who recognised some of the goods.

Meeson, aged 28, of Sussex Place, Shakerley, Tyldesley then handed the keys to the neighbour who was also left to take care of the children.

At Bolton Crown Court for sentence Meeson admitted charges of burglary, theft and failing to surrender to custody and was jailed for a total of 22 months.

The court heard Meeson last year also burgled a house in Wigan. He smashed in through a conservatory, stole £500 worth of goods but cut himself and was traced through DNA.

The court was told that Meeson was a drug addict now trying to get his life in order.

Judge Arthur Rumbelow QC said that Meeson had an unattractive previous criminal record including dishonesty and burglaries but he had now taken responsibility for his actions.
