AN HISTORIC black and white framed Tudor mansion is turning green after setting up a recycling depot.

Picturesque Samlesbury Hall in Preston New Road, Blackburn, is turning to bottle banks to help dispose of its waste.

The manor, which is home to an antiques and arts centre, hosts a growing number of functions and generates mountains of waste.

But with nowhere in the area providing a recycling service, managers at the historic hall have taken it upon themselves to start a scheme with bottle banks provided by the South Ribble Borough Council.

And local residents can do their bit for the environment by dropping of their glass waste at the special skips.

Sharon Jones, events manager at Samlesbury Hall, said: "It's only right that we should look after the environment, as we are blessed with such a picturesque setting, and our new service can be used by local people, too."
