I HAVE read the letters back and forward for the last few weeks, particularly between Cllr Emily Heath and David Uphill.

I seem to recall that Cllr Heath was blaming people from Morecambe and Hey-sham for causing pollution and parking problems in Lancaster in general and Scot-forth in particular.

I think Cllr Heath is missing a huge point here. I am pretty sure she does not have to sit in the traffic jam between Morecambe and Lancaster every morning and evening.

If she did, she might wonder why it is that it takes over an hour to travel six miles.

She might notice that there is a road wide enough for two lanes each way, reduced down to one lane and a bus lane - with only an occasional bus car-rying an occasional passenger in it.

I know we are supposed to be using more buses and fewer cars but the reality is that when I used a bus today from the Carleton in Morecambe to Heysham, I waited for 40 minutes, watched at least four buses go past to different destinations.

She might wonder what it is like for someone who lives in higher Heysham, with all the advantages of a new wide road built to the Asda roundabout, just so they can feed into the jam that is already there.

She might wonder why people from Heysham who wish to go to Preston often go along the coast road to Carnforth to get onto the M6, knowing it will be quicker than going through the bottleneck which is Lancaster.

I wonder if she realises how much traffic goes through Lancaster to the ferry points, or even how much of that traffic does not bother and goes via Carnforth.

The Western by-pass could alleviate much of this, but I am afraid that with attitudes like that shown by Cllr Heath, we will never experience it.

We have had the feeder road for years, so why don,t we just stop messing about and get on with building the by-pass.
