A DARWEN councillor today stepped into the debate over a controversial footpath which links a housing estate with a new motorway service station.
Coun Mike Barrett, who represents Darwen's Earcroft ward, called for the path connecting Redvers Road to the McDonald's restaurant off the M65 to be re-directed. He claimed there was no way the path should be there.
Coun Barrett said: "At a meeting the council's regeneration officers promised to go away and look at the issue.
"The path is totally inappropriate and the issue is being looked at again with a view to re-directing the path." Redvers Road residents started a petition to get the path removed. So far it has attracted 50 signatures.
Campaigner Linda Chelton said: "We want as many people as possible to sign it because it was never part of the deal to have access to the new McDonald's through our street."
