A NEW swimming group for young water lovers has taken off with a real splash.
Children participating in the Duckling Award Grade One at Rawtenstall's Marl Pits pool, in Newchurch Road, take part in a 10-week course and complete a variety of tasks, including floating on their backs with adult support, wetting their heads without submersion, blowing bubbles in the water and travelling without assistance two meters to a floating object.
Denise Stotan, Literacy Development Worker for Sure Start, said: "All the children got off to a flying start developing a growing confidence in the water and learning lots of new rhymes with their parents. Everybody had lots of fun and made friends, too."
The Ducking Swimming group has been so successful that there is a waiting list. The course runs on Monday mornings for pre-school children from four months old in the OL13 area.
