MY letter struck gold, thanks to you. (Citizen Letters, January 9).
A Mr Porter has a map of Preston of 1852, and points out that in those days Marsh Lane was called Bridge Lane!
This is the answer to the puzzle, and as a matter of interest I have now traced my family tree back to the 1680s. Thanks again.
