I WAS not amused by the letter 'Laws favour minorities' (Citizen, January 2).
If no one wanted to shop on Christmas Day then shops would not open.
The fact is that shops that open on this day provide a useful service to the neighbourhood they serve, which is the only reason shops do open on any day.
Note the fact that most shops were open on Boxing Day and New Year's day. Let's not forget all the Bank Holidays as well.
The petrol station in front of my house on Blackpool Road was open on Christmas Day and business was brisk as people came to fill their cars, or buy much needed cigarettes and groceries they'd run out of.
