REGARDING the plan for Blackburn to have Lancashire's first Muslim state school (LET, January 10), education should be free from religious influence. Separate schooling leads to separate lives and does nothing to help understanding of the separate religious schools.
It is unfortunate that we have Church of England, Jewish and Roman Catholic Schools and perpetuating a mistake does not make it right.
Northern Ireland is a good example of where separate education leads, with young people viewing the "other side" as dangerous and unknown.
It is unfortunate that Blackburn has chosen to follow the apartheid-education path rather than follow a truly democratic education for all with no religion in schools.
BRIAN TODD, Heys Lane, Blackburn.
