FIT-AGAIN striker Matt Jansen today warned his Blackburn team-mates Andy Cole and Dwight Yorke: 'I'm after your places'.

Jansen recently marked his return to action with a deadly double against Aston Villa in the FA Cup a fortnight ago.

Those were his first goals in the first team since he suffered serious head injuries in a motorbike accident eight months ago.

But, although he admits he's still not quite 100 per cent yet, the talented frontman has set his sights on giving Graeme Souness a selection poser over the next few weeks as Rovers' season comes to the boil.

Rovers entertain Birmingham City at Ewood tomorrow, and Jansen is hopeful of featuring.

"We've got a great squad here and I understand at the moment that I'm not 100 per cent," said Jansen.

"But I don't think I'm far off and when I feel that I'm ready I want to be pushing for the starting line-up.

"Obviously, I'd love to be involved against Manchester United again next week and the gaffer has said that I'll be starting in the next round of the FA Cup.

"So I've got to look to do something in that game then, hopefully, he can't leave me out anymore.

"In many respects, the last week or so has been pretty hectic for me.

"Although I've been used sparingly in games, I've actually still been involved in four games in the space of seven or eight days.

"From that point of view, it's been good for me and it was nice to get on against United, albeit on the left.

"So, hopefully, I'll get a few more run-outs in which I can do something worthwhile because I want to be knocking on the gaffer's door and saying I want to be starting."

Aside from the recent Cup tie at Villa Park, Jansen has had to wait patiently for his chance with Souness prefering to introduce him from the bench.

But, although the striker understands that the club are acting in his best interests, he's admitted his frustration at having to watch from the sidelines.

He stepped up his comeback plans with another 90 minutes for the reserves against Bolton on Monday night, where he was again on target from the penalty spot.

However, he'd prefer to showcase his talents in the first team.

"It's hard to motivate yourself on wet and windy days like it was on Monday," said Jansen.

Rovers have now sold 25,000 tickets for the Manchester United game.

Midfielder Darren Dunning, 22, has joined Division Three club Macclesfield on a month's loan.
