A KEEN weight trainer died after falling down the stairs at home and suffering a brain haemorrhage, an inquest heard.
David Cardwell, 30, collapsed in the house in Barclay Street, Brierfield after the fall on October 27.
Police, who were called to the scene by neighbours, initially treated the death as suspicious although it later turned out the fall was accidental.
The inquest heard much of the house was heavily bloodstained and it appeared that David had recovered after the fall and wandered around the house and back upstairs before collapsing unconscious in the bedroom around an hour later.
A post mortem examination showed he died as the result of a massive head injury.
Acting East Lancashire Coroner Richard Taylor recorded a verdict of accidental death and said: "He caused himself a heavy injury and later sadly collapsed unconscious and died."
