GLOWING praise has been given to a primary school with "no major areas for improvement" following an Ofsted inspection.

All Saints CE Primary School in Clayton-le-Moors was hailed as an excellent school for the second time from the education watchdogs who visited the school in November.

And contrary to the national trend, it is the the boys who have outdone the girls in performance tests.

"The last report was good -- but this is very good," said headteacher Peter Jump, "We are all absolutely delighted".

The 263-strong voluntary aided school, one of three in the town, is consistently oversubscribed.

It received specific recognition from the six-strong inspecting team for providing a rich curriculum, good value for money and excellent leadership from the head and governors.

And the inspectors were so pleased they have not called on the school's managing team to produce any action plans for improvements.

Mr Jump said: "They spent four days at the school and were very impressed with all that they saw.

"It is really great to be told there is no major areas for improvement and no need to draw up an action plan. This is a good reward for everyone from teachers, staff and pupils."
