THE injury pendulum has swung from one extreme to the other at Turf Moor and manager Stan Ternent has been handed a selection problem this weekend.

Midfielder Lee Briscoe came through a midweek reserve match unscathed, striker Gareth Taylor is available after completing a three-match ban, while Ian Cox and Drissa Diallo may be kept out by Mark McGregor and Arthur Gnohere, after the defensive duo formed a solid unit in Tuesday's 4-0 win over Grimsby.

And with Ian Moore netting twice after laying down the gauntlet in his bid to stay in the starting line-up, for the first time in several weeks there is competition for places, particularly up front.

But that's not a problem for former Taylor.

"It's good for the gaffer to have people back like myself because there have been a few suspensions and injuries lately so if we can get a few more back then I think he's got pretty much a full squad to choose from," the former Manchester City front man said.

"Hopefully I'll be back inthe team. The lads had a good result in the cup and I was pleased for Ian (Moore) whn he scored. It is frustrating when you're just watching but I'm pleased when the lads do well and score and when the lads at the back keep clean sheets and things like that."

But if the 29-year-old is handed a recall after two weeks on the sidelines, he'll be ready.

"I've been working hard and training hard and doing plenty of running afterwards to givemyself the best possible chance so, if I do get in I can try to be ready," he said.

"It will be a tough game down at Palace. They are doing well and have put a good run together so to go down there and get a result we'll have done well."

Burnley manager Stan Ternent, who goes in search of his 100th league and cup win with the Clarets tomorrow, added he was delighted to have a plethora of players for his return to Selhurst Park.

"We've got a few back from suspension and injury now so the squad's getting a little stronger which makes it that much better," said Ternent, who was coach at Crystal Palace in the late 80s under Steve Coppell.

"It gives me big problems, but I prefer those problems to the ones where I haven't got those players available.

"We've still got Paul Weller, Steve Davis and Brad Maylett injured but other than that we seem to be getting them back slowly but surely. If I can get them all fit and up and running and away from suspension then we should be okay."

Ternent added that he was still looking to strengthen his squad, and described reports of a link with Blackburn Rovers' midfielder Alan Mahon as speculation.

"I never comment on speculation, and that's all it is," he said.

"I don't know where it's come from but that's not the way I do my business. But I'm always looking to strengthen the squad if I can because it's important. Competition is healthy."

The Clarets boss was monitoring French triallist Amandou Sanokha but his spell at Burnley came to an abrupt end in the reserves game with Wolves on Wednesday.

The 23-year-old suffered a kick in the face as he stooped to head the ball and spent the night in hospital.

Ternent added: "They'll send him home for two days and then they'll look at him again. But he's not going to be able to play for six weeks so that's a non-starter.

"It's bad luck for him because he did alright but that's just how it is and unfortunately nothing will happen now."
