VOLUNTEERS aiming to breathe new life into a community park have received a cash boost to fund the final stages of the redevelopment.

Rosemount Community park, off Huttock End Lane, Stacksteads, has already enjoyed a number of improvements over more than 11 years, when the community park has gained a wildlife pond, footpaths, picnic areas, benches and tables.

The project started with tree planting and youngsters cleaning up the area. Groundwork Rossendale has now helped build a path and youth club members dug out the pond on the site.

Fences were built round the area, shrubs and wild flowers have been planted and a path has been built around the pond.

Money has been received from Stacksteads Riverside Park Group and it is hoped Rossendale Groundwork may also help.

Much of the work is thanks to Frances Whitehead, who has been pushing the project forward.

Members of Stacksteads Youth Club have also been working on the park.

The group is now raising £3,000 to pay for the next stage of the project.
