LEIGH Centurions finally got the work-out they badly needed on Wednesday with just four days to go before the start of the new season writes Mike Hulme

NW Counties Division Three side Bank Quay Bulls were crushed 62-6 as the Centurions, with nine new faces in their ranks, barely needed to get out of second gear to post 13 tries.

After two attempts to play Warrington were thwarted by the weather, coach Paul Terzis was desperate to get his team into action.

"It was a good exercise and served it's purpose," he said. "We were a bit rusty at times but all the signs were good."

Sonny Nickle and Sean Richardson, when paired together in the second row after half time, gave an indication of a fruitful partnership to come. Nickle scored twice and Richardson once as well as creating a number of other openings with some impressive running.

Young scrum half Lee Sanderson staked his claim for a place in Sunday's starting line-up with a couple of tries while new Aussie recruit, half-back Pat Weisner, set up three tries with some astute passes.

Leigh led 34-0 at half time and such was their dominance that they turned down all their second half kicks at goal.

Leigh's tries came from: Nickle (2), Sanderson (2), Woods (2), Hadcroft, Watts, Richardson, Maddox, Andrews, Munro, Rowley.
