PEOPLE from all faiths and cultures have been invited to remember the victims of oppression and torture across the world at a special service.

The National Holocaust Memorial Day will be held on the steps of Blackburn Town Hall, in King Street, on Sunday January 26.

The event organised by Blackburn with Darwen Borough Council and the Interfaith Council will start at 2pm.

The memorial service will be led by Coun Salim Mulla, Chair of the Interfaith Council. And the Rev Leslie Olsberg FSRA, Minister of Heaton Park Synagogue, Manchester, will conduct the opening address.

The event will offer multi-faith prayers and will include those from Muslim, Christian, Jewish, Hindu and Sikh faiths.

A contribution from the younger element of the community will also be given by the borough's Youth MP Rahima Patel.

The Mayor and Mayoress of Blackburn with Darwen, Coun Tony Humphrys and Jacqueline Humphrys, will also attend the service, along with council leader Bill Taylor.

The mayor's address will be followed by the closing speech by Coun Mulla, and the lighting of candles and refreshments in the town hall.
