IN a Christian country where the Government seeks to repeal Section 91 of the Schools Standards and Framework Act 1998, which allowed faith schools to protect the denominational character and ethos of their school, I find the local authority's sanction of a state-funded Muslim girls' school rather incongruous.
The authority have welcomed this new legislation which, they tell us, will allow admissions to our schools to be more inclusive. Yet, our schools are not set up as multi-faith schools, with all that term implies.
I therefore ask, how can the local authority welcome the 'diluting' of faith schools and yet are proud to open another?
