THE millions of Jews who died in the Holocaust were remembered by Stonyhurst College pupils at special services.

Two pupils of the preparatory school St Mary's Hall appeared on ITV's My Favourite Hymns, led by Fr Dennis Blacklidge of Blackpool and filmed in one of the college's chapels.

Max Attard, 12, of Whittingham Lane, Preston, and Tom O'Donnell, 12, of Lostock Hall, read bible extracts.

Pupils from the college also attended Remembering Terezin, a Holocaust memorial concert at Beth Shalom in Nottinghamshire.

They also visited the Beth Shalom Holocaust Memorial Centre at Laxton, Notts, and heard the testimonies of Stephen Frank, a child survivor of Terezin, and Arek Hersch, who survived both Terezin and Auschwitz.

Both speakers read poetry written by children from the Terezin ghetto. Of the 15,000 children sent to Terezin, only 100 survived.

Stonyhurst College head of history Michael Turner said: "It was a day when those who lost their lives were remembered with honour and sensitivity."

Pupil Edmund Page, 17, added: "It was an unforgettable experience and I will long remember listening to the survivors of the Holocaust."
