A PURPOSE built hang-out for bored teenagers has helped cut nuisance activity in Burnley.
The local council put up a 'youth shelter' in Padiham which helped halved complaints about anti-social behaviour in nearby areas in the 12 months after it was introduced.
The shelter gives local youngsters a safe meeting point. Consultation with local teenagers revealed concern about the lack of facilities and prompted the creation of 'teen-zones'.
A programme of building is now being planned including the creation of a skateboarding park, football pitches, basketball courts and recreation grounds.
The 'teen-zones' project is being funded jointly by Lancashire County Council and Burnley Borough Council.
