ONE of Hindsford's oldest residents, Arthur Phillips, has died aged 95.
Born in Samuel Street, he went to St Anne's School and after trying mill and mine work went to work for Hindsford and Atherton Co-op in 1923 as a milk roundsman. He took charge of the dairy operation and stayed at the Co-op until retirement in 1967, a spell during which he worked on 44 consecutive Christmas Days.
Widower Mr Phillips' died in Chanters Nursing Home at Hindsford. His funeral was on Monday at Atherton Parish Church followed by cremation at Howe Bridge.
