ALL eyes will be on Doni Clarke as Ramsbottom United look to take the form that brought them a 7-0 victory at Flixton last Saturday into tomorrow's home game against Congleton (kick-off 3pm).

Former Huddersfield Town player Clarke, son of the Rams' joint manager, Jimmy Clarke, played his first game for United at Flixton and was the driving force behind the much-needed, morale-boosting victory.

The win lifted Ramsbottom off the bottom of the North West Counties Division One table for the first time in six weeks, and joint manager Andy Grimshaw declared: "It was what we needed -- and the big difference was Doni Clarke.

"He's got a great touch and great awareness. I lost count of the number of times he put our forwards through and he scored a couple of goals himself.

"His running and enthusiasm spilled through the side and kick-started them.

"With Scott Thomas coming back, it's all breeding confidence," added Grimshaw.

Another player who will be looking forward to Saturday's game is centre back Ian Dyson. For if he is declared fit after a back injury he is set to line up against his former club.

The Rams' only other injury worry is over Chris Clarke, who took a knock to a leg during the game at Flixton, but Grimshaw is confident he will have recovered in time for tomorrow's game.

United have parted company with two players, striker Carl Lomax and left winger Dale Fielding.

The pair upset the Rams' management when it was discovered they had played for a lower league local side recently when the rest of the United squad were holding a training session following the postponement of a game due to the adverse weather conditions.

"They will both be released by the club," said Grimshaw. "I understand Carl Lomax is trying to sign for Hyde United, but I am very reluctant to let Dale go. He's got talent, but they can't come and go as they please."
