POLICE in Ramsbottom put fitness fans on red alert today after a jogger in a neighbouring district was attacked.
Women who run alone were today urged to pair up with a pal following the incident involving a 37-year-old woman in Bury.
The jogger was attacked on Thursday by a hooded man.
She was hit over the head with a weapon between 10.15pm and 10.30pm and needed hospital treatment. Police have issued a description of the man, who is in his late teens or early 20s, medium build and 5ft10ins to 6ft tall.
PC John Flowers of Ramsbottom Police, said: "It is vital that people out jogging at night are aware of the dangers.
"I would urge people to run in groups if they insist on exercising at night."
