A BAND of music's great survivors come to Preston Guild Hall next Saturday night.
The Levellers do not feature prominently in many charts or grace covers of teen magazines but continue to draw a huge following wherever they play.
Without technology, however, band member Mark Chapman admitted it could all be so different.
"If the internet didn't exist I doubt that we would either," he confessed.
"It is pretty poor state of affairs when real music like ours doesn't make any inroads on the airwaves.
"Thankfully we've got our website to keep people informed of what we are up to.
"But as a band we have survived many trends and we will keep going.
"There are a lot of disenchanted music fans out there who and they come and support us."
With their new album Green Blade Rising full of the usual mix of meaningful, politically powerful lyrics and an interesting blend of traditional folk and rock tunes, you can see why The Levellers don't fit into the current interest in manufactured groups.
"I don't think you'll be seeing us on CD:UK," laughed Mark.
"But we've been going long enough now to do what we want to do and to enjoy it.
"We're just trying to keep it interesting both for ourselves and for our fans."
