SADIQUE Rafique gave his brother's details when he was stopped driving in Blackburn, when he was on a bail condition to live at a hostel in Carlisle.

But there was already a warrant out for his brother's arrest and Rafique's detention and subsequent Blackburn court appearance landed him a six month prison sentence.

Rafique, 23, of Dundee Drive, Blackburn, pleaded guilty to two charges of possessing cannabis, assaulting a police officer, three charges of resisting police officers and driving while disqualified.

Lisa Worsley, prosecuting, said Rafique struggled violently and spat on a police officer.

Basharat Ditta, defending, said he felt the officers had applied the handcuffs rather rigidly.
