A YOUNG woman enjoying a drink in a Longridge pub was showered with broken glass when Phillip Aaron Kenyon put his fist through a window.

Blackburn magistrates heard that Rachael Barnes suffered several small cuts to her face in the incident, which Kenyon later told police he could not remember.

Kenyon, 21, of Wellbrow Drive, Longridge, pleaded guilty to criminal damage and assault causing actual bodily harm. He was fined £50 and ordered to pay £100 compensation for the window, £150 compensation to Miss Barnes and £75 costs.

Wendy Chappell, prosecuting, said Miss Barnes had gone into the Dog Inn with her boyfriend when she saw a group of people coming from the direction of the Weavers Arms shouting and swearing.

As she watched, Kenyon ran towards the window and smashed it with his fist. Kenyon was chased and detained by the pub landlord and several of his customers. He was interviewed by police after receiving hospital treatment for a cut to his arm.

He said he had been attacked during an argument in the Weavers Arms, but he could not remember the incident at the Dog.

Graham Tindall, defending, said Kenyon, a chef at the Derby Arms, had been drinking with friends and had been the victim of an assault. "He has no recollection of breaking the window but he accepts he was responsible," said Mr Tindall. He is very sorry that injury was caused to the young lady."
